API’s – a new way to build use and brand

Just as quick link to James Cridland at ”bloggy blogg blog” for an interesting example of how API’s create awareness and value around content.

He suggests that Twitter took off in part because they included an API so that other developers could take information from their system and present it in ways they never considered – all the while building the Twitter brand and the use of their service.

As a Radio guy – and a smart one at that – he then suggest that the same thing can apply to media content (he’s so right) pointing to the BBC as a example of a player that already understands this. Take a look at the their list of API’s and open content – and consider – how soon until everyone is twittering about the BBC – and linking to it’s content.
